Hyderabad, August 11, 2016…….FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) has organised “Design Your Personality”, an interactive session with Masaba Gupta here in city today.

Masaba, daughter of a well known West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards and film actress Neena Gupta and wife of Madhu Manthena, a Telugu Film Director, is among the most influential and dynamic youth fashion icons in India. Her designs are worn by the top most bollywood divas like Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranuant, Aditi Rao Hyadri to name a few.

She was in conversation with Vanaja Banagiri, Editor of Southscope and Ritz magazine on the subjects for little over an hour. Masaba drew very good participation from FLO as more than 150 members attended the session.

Interacting on the subject Masaba Gupa said Buy, clothes, but add a bit of your personality to make your clothes stand out in the crowd. She advised her audience to brace their body and personality as is.

Speaking about Indian Fashion and its spread to overseas countries, she said we are so large and we are so driven by our own festivals, we hardly worry how do we fare on fashion circuits abroad.

I want younger people to embrace saree. They are shying away from it, she said while replying to a question put by her audience.

Fun, playfulness and Colour is what lacking in Indian Fashion Industry, she opined. Fashion Industry in India is booming she said.

Giving her opinion about Fashion Shows, she said, they are more of entertainment and less of fashion design. They are Bollywood driven and PR events for many, she gave her frank opinion.

Giving her opinion about e-commerce she said in India shopping is an event. It is a favourite past time done by family together. It is a very important outings. These things are missing in e-commerce. I am sure people go back soon to the traditional way of shopping, which is mostly experience driven, she said.

She said that she doesn’t have any plans to open an outlet here in Hyderabad.

Speaking about her personal life, she said, looking at newspapers seeing an article demeaning me gave me lot of strength. I am more like my father. I have a knack of laughing at myself like my mother. My friends during my school days used to laugh at seeming my curly hair. I used to go back home crying. But, our home is a place where there is no negative feeling. We never shed tears at home. There is no place for sadness at our home.

The biggest loss for me was when my grandfather passed way, Masaba Gupta informed.

I used to see my father, once in a year, sometimes once in two years. I liked my teenager life. But, I missed my college, Though I studied at Design school, but that was a different kind of college experience, she said.

I got married to Madhu Manthena, a Telugu Film Director within three months after knowing each other. Though love marriage we had to get married within three months, because, all the men I met before were so bad that I didn’t want to loose him, she said. She frankly admitted that she doesn’t know Telugu. I am a Telugu’s Daughter in law, she said.

Welcoming the gathering, Padma Rajgopal, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad said Masaba graduated with a diploma in Apparel Manufacture and Design, was the youngest creative director of Satya Paul. She started her entrepreneurial journey at the age of 20 by starting her own eponymous brand MASABA. Today she is among the most influential and dynamic youth fashion icon in India. Her design, is worn by the top most Bollywood divas like Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranuant, Aditi Rao Hyadri to name a few and Masaba being their reason for their total fashion makeover. This young girl who climbed the stairs of success at a very young age and still manages to retain it is a live example of an iconic lady. She is here with us to teach us how to ‘Design our personality, Padma Rajgopal informed.

Masaba, now 24, had debuted in 2010 at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer in the GenNext category with her first couture collection ‘Kattran’,
Masaba has definitely created her mark and has many avid Bollywood celebrities who swear by her creations. Neha Dhupia, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor are huge fans of Masaba creations, particularly her saris, that have created a frenzy with her enigmatic use of colors and prints.

She was the youngest Creative director of India’s oldest iconic label Satya Paul. Her collection as the Creative director at Satya Paul features Collaboration with Disney India called ‘Monopop’.

Masaba also designed a signature series Of luxury Bath products For ITC Fiama Di Wills that was followed by a ready---to---wear collection, Showcased at Wills India Fashion Week in October 2014.

She was also the first designer to collaborate with India’s largest selling author Chetan Bhagat designing a
Line of apparel & accessories for his novel, Half Girlfriend (2014).

Last year Masaba had been appointed as creative director by ecommerce giant Myntra. And is spearheading Anouk, their new Indian Apparel brand. Her journey in fashion has also been documented on Star World In a show.
