Debutant producer Venkat Boyanapalli awaits the release of 'Shyam Singha Roy' on December 24. In this interview, he talks about working with Natural Star Nani, the release plans, how it was making the movie during the pandemic, and more.
I was in the US before stepping into films. I never wanted to be a producer. I have been a businessman as well. The desire to become a producer took roots during the making of 'Krishnarjuna Yuddham'.
'Shyam Singha Roy' is a beautiful love story, first and foremost, written and directed by Rahul Sankrityan. The titular character, as you all know, is played by Nani. Post-production works have come to an end already. We are ready for a grand theatrical release on December 24.
It was not a stressful experience producing the film. The credit goes to Nani, the hero. I have been in the industry for 12 years and have been through a lot. But making this film was not difficult, thanks to our hero. For Niharika Entertainment, this is a breakout project.
Due to the pandemic and the damage to a set on an occasion, the production works saw some hiccups. Notwithstanding the challenges, I never saw this film as a headache.
We are confident despite the competition from big movies. Ours is a big movie as well. We are not releasing 'SSR' in Hindi because it might be remade there. So, we are releasing it only in major South Indian languages. I don't know how many theatres are going to screen our movie on Day 1 as of now. Distributors such as Dil Raju are associated with us. The overseas release is going to be huge for sure.
You will go back to the 1970s Calcutta while watching the movie. I can't reveal the context in which the story is set because that would be a spoiler. The film was shot extensively in Calcutta and in a village 400 km from the city. Otherwise, we also erected a set at Shankerpalli here to shoot some portions. Our banner Niharika Entertainment will be remembered for this movie for a long time to come.
I presented 'Krishnarjuna Yuddham' previously. It was my firm decision to produce a movie with Nani as the hero since then. He doesn't cause any stress and is a pleasure to work with.
When you are producing a movie, you have to trust your director and actor. Otherwise, there is no point. I have to love my actor and director if I have to invest in a project.
