Kara is about survival and intense emotion: Producer CH Satish Kumar

Producer CH Satish Kumar is ready to make a mark with the Telugu release of Kara. A seasoned distributor turned producer, Kumar has a track record of identifying hits, having previously handled the Telugu journeys of blockbusters like Kabali and Salaar. With Kara, he isn’t just betting on Dhanush’s goodwill, but on a visceral, realistic narrative that promises to bridge the gap between thrills and deep-rooted family sentiment. The film releases in theatres on April 30. A day ahead of the movie's release, he interacted with the media.

I can’t reveal too much yet, but Kara is essentially the story of an ordinary man caught in dire circumstances. He fights to pull himself up. While the trailer hints at a bank robbery, I want to clarify that this isn’t a heist film; the robbery is merely a piece of a much larger puzzle.

Kara is a solid family drama at its heart. It combines survival and intense emotion in a way that every family will find relatable. Dhanush sir’s character is so original that people will connect with his journey and the sacrifices he makes for his family.

We have set the story during the Gulf War era, using the fuel crisis of that time as a backdrop. It isn’t the main plot, but a device that adds a layer of realism and urgency that feels incredibly relevant today.

My decision to acquire this film wasn’t based entirely on star power. In today’s market, content is the real driver. Dhanush sir's image is a huge asset. What gave me 100% confidence to go after this project at any cost was director Vignesh Raja’s previous work, Por Thozhil (Tamil). That was such a seat-of-the-pants thriller that I knew I could trust his vision.

When I spoke with Dhanush sir, he was equally confident. We both strongly believe Kara has the potential to be a blockbuster and set new records.

We produced two songs specifically for the Telugu audience, and the reach has been fantastic. Having Ramajogayya Sastry write 'Kannamma' gave the character's journey a poetic depth that elevates the entire film. (The song has clocked more than 4 million views).

We have already covered 80% of the film's costs. We have been very strategic about the release to ensure we reach the audience’s doorstep effectively. Instead of a blanket release, we are distributing it territory-wise with the industry’s best: Dil Raju garu is handling the Nizam region, while Alankar Prasad saw the potential in this film and is managing the Krishna district after a long hiatus. We are expecting a wide release across more than 600 theaters, with over 400 already confirmed.

This solo production venture is a culmination of my journey that started in Visakhapatnam. I began distributing small films before moving on to big ones like Arjun Reddy and Singham 3.

I am committed to bringing quality cinema to our audience. I am already in talks for my next project, Peddi, which I expect to finalize in a couple of days.
