Sing Geetham is relevant to today's times: Shalini Kondepudi

Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is considered a master of innovative cinema. Old-timers know him for thinking up some of the most path-breaking ideas. He is back with a project titled Sing Geetham at the age of 94. Backed by Nag Ashwin, Vyjayanthi Movies, and Swapna Cinema, this experimental film features Ayaan, Ahilya Bamroo, Shalini Kondepudi, Thulasi PA, Benarjee, Sivanarayana, and Agu Stanley in different roles. With music by Devi Sri Prasad and a unique narrative style, the film is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on June 11. Actress Shalini Kondepudi sat down to discuss her incredible experience working on this one-of-a-kind musical venture. Jayamma Panchayathi (Suma Kanakala's movie), Shubham (produced by Samantha Ruth Prabhu), and My Dear Donga are among her previous movies. Before entering films, she worked in radio, advertising, and content creation. She later founded a Hyderabad-based advertising agency and transitioned into acting and screenwriting.

Our story unfolds in a fictional village named Kuberapuram. What happens there, and the mystery of why everyone communicates through songs, is an experience meant purely for the big screen. This is a completely fresh, original concept that is not based on or inspired by any film (or book). This is the first musical comedy film in the history of Indian cinema. Like Singeetham sir’s previous experiments (such as Pushpaka Vimanam, Aditya 369), it is going to be uniquely experimental.

My character in Sing Geetham has negative shades. However, because it was a Singeetham sir directorial, I knew I wanted to be a part of it regardless of the role. I attended the audition and was selected about a month later.

A film of this genre is unprecedented. Everything is presented in a musical format, which meant every actor needed to be able to sing in tune. To prepare for this unique requirement, we attended extensive workshops. Singeetham sir conceived this story years ago, yet it feels incredibly relevant today. In this film, every single word is musical; even the dialogues flow like songs. As for why everyone is singing their lines? The reason behind that is a secret that will only be revealed on the big screen.

The director personally supervised every single aspect, crafting the movie entirely according to his vision. I consider it an absolute privilege to have worked under his direction.

Our only references were the visions of Singeetham sir and Nag Ashwin garu. The latter's vision and sensibilities are also reflected in the film.
