Vikram who has carved a niche for attempting new and very different roles, next only to Kamal Hassan was recently in Hyderabad to promote his latest flick ‘Naanna’, the Telugu dubbed version of Tamil film ‘Daivar Thiru Magan’. He spoke to the media as part of the promotion. He said that the movie had given him a new challenge where he had to put in the best efforts beyond what he did during various other challenging roles.
On his characterization he said, “My character in this film is that of a person who becomes mentally challenged at the age of five and grows up without any development. In order to be truthful to the character, I did more than 1 ½ months home work by living in the surroundings of such people and understanding each and every aspects of their behavior.
On his working experience he was so emotional in saying that the home work and director’s involvement had totally changed his personality and that he was almost living the character even for a few days after the shooting was over.
On questioning about the content of the film he said, “The movie basically involves two main characters, the father and the daughter and revolves around their relationship. It also contains situational comedy and makes the movie further more interesting. This is a pure family entertainer keeping you engaged right from the first scene till the last one. This apart, the director has taken efforts to convey a message through each characterization.
On the kind of message the movie conveys he said, “The daughters will realize how the parents are hurt if they are not taken care off and at the same time the fathers who watch the film are sure to allocate quality time with their daughters.”
On costars Anushka and Amala Paul he commented, “Both Anushka and Amala Paul gave life to their characters. Especially the 5 year old Sara is brilliant. She was so much involved in the film that she byhearted the entire script and used to tell my dialogues as well along with that of hers.”
“The director crafted the film in an amazing manner. He loved the story so much that he observed every little thing and directed the film accordingly and so as the music director who rendered fantastic music. This film is certainly a very good film. I never do any film with the intention of getting an award. I select movies based on the different characters. I’ll be happy if this film gets awards,” Vikram concluded by saying so.
Featuring Vikram, Anushka and Amala Paul in lead roles, ‘Naanna’ is directed by Vijay and produced by M Chintamani under Sri Rajakaali Amman Medias.
