Hemant Madhukar on Anushka's dedication for 'Nishabdham' and more
'Nishabdham', starring Anushka Shetty in the lead, will stream on Amazon Prime from October 2. Ahead of its release, director Hemant Madhukar has spoken about the making of the thriller and working with Anushka, Madhavan, Anjali and others.
How Nishabdham came into being:
I wanted to make a thriller on the lines of 'Pushpaka Vimaanam', in the sense, I wanted to make a silent movie. I understood that producers wouldn't back an experimental silent film and so I wrote the dialogues and designed the lead characters in a new manner.
Explaining the US backdrop:
In keeping with the mood of the story, we wanted to shoot it in a calm place. Also, we wanted to give a new movie-watching experience to the audience. Anushka will be seen as a US-born person in the film.
It's also for this reason that American artists like Hollywood actor Michael Madsen have been roped in to play key roles.
Work experience with actors:
Even though I am a junior compared to Anushka garu in the industry, she never let her image get in the way. She delivered whatever was her brief. She even learned the international sign language for her role.
As for Anjali, she underwent special training to play an American cop in the film. Madhavan has done a great job.
Working with producers:
TG Vishwa Prasad garu, who runs People Media Factory, believed in the potential of my story and decided to spend big. Shooting in the USA is a risky affair and we faced numerous challenges like visa allotment, location scouting, acquiring permission, etc. But the support that was given by our production team was invaluable. We wrapped up the shoot in just 55 days. I have been associated with Kona Venkat garu for over 15 years and I feel Kona Film Corporation is like a home banner to me.
Cinematography by Shaneil Deo, music by Gopi Sundar (for whom a suspense thriller is a first) and BGM by Girrish Gopalakrishnan competed with each other and are of top standards.
Amazon Prime representatives were very satisfied after watching the film. I strongly believe OTT wouldn't affect the theatrical business of 'Nishabdham' when it releases in theatres.
