Interview of Nag Ashwin about 'Jathi Ratnalu'

Nag Ashwin has produced 'Jathi Ratnalu', which will release on March 11. In this interview, he talks about working with debutant director Anudeep KV, actors Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna, what to expect from the film and more.

The director of this film didn't come to me with the story. It was I who went searching for him after watching a short film of his. I have no aim to become a big producer. I liked the comedy and innocence in that short film. I have always loved the films of Jandhyala garu and SV Krishna Reddy garu. When we are down, we would like to watch such movies. That's why I wanted to produce a comedy.

The story is by Anudeep himself. But during the travel for two years, there was an exchange of ideas. When 'Yevade Subrahmanyam' was to be made as a small film, Naveen Polishetty was to debut in it like Vijay Deverakonda. In the meanwhile, Naveen went on to make a big name for himself. The comedy by him, as well as Rahul and Darshi, is going to be hilarious.

A lot of artists are newcomers in the film. For Naveen, it's his second movie. For Faria Abdullah, it's a debut. Art director, costume designer, cinematographer and director are all newcomers. It's my first film as a producer.

Faria has got very good comic timing. Many can act but it's not easy to find an actress with the perfect comic timing.

'Jathi Ratnalu' is a unique comedy. We have watched the movie again and again in the last one year without getting bored.

I like humour. My film with Prabhas garu is going to have humour. The pre-production works are going to take a lot of time because we have had to build everything from scratch. The film will go on the floors in July.

After 'Jathi Ratnalu', my next two years will be occupied by Prabhas garu's film. I have no other plan as of now. The writing, pre-production works and interviewing technicians for the film took my time last year. The project was okayed in March 2020.
