Rev. Fr. Balaiah Memorial All India Inter-Collegiate Basketball & Volleyball Tournament, to be held from February 6th!

Hyderabad, February 3rd, 2017: Rev. Fr. Dr K.S. Casimir SJ, Chairman, Loyola Degree & PG College; Rev. Fr. Anil Kumar SJ, Tournament Secretary & Mr. C. Sandeep Reddy, Organizing Secretary; announced the details of the prestigiousRev. Fr. T. Balaiah Memorial All India Inter-Collegiate Basketball (Ninth Edition) & Volleyball (Sixth Edition)TOURNAMENT-2017, being held from February 6th to 9th, 2017 at the Loyola Academy Games Enclave, at a Press conference at Press Club on Friday.

Late Rev. Fr. Balaiah played a key role in setting up Loyola Academy in Alwal, Secunderabad in 1976. The Institute has grown immensely in size and in reputation not only in academics but also in sports. Loyola Academy takes pride in organizing this tournament to perpetuate the memory of Late Rev. Fr. Balaiah who is the founder of the academy, and also with a view to kindle and foster a deep passion for sports and games among the youth of the country

The 9th edition of Fr. Balaiah Memorial National Level Basketball and the 6th edition of Fr. Balaiah Memorial All India Inter-Collegiate Volleyball tournament 2017, will be held at the Loyola Academy Games Enclave from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th February 2017.

The Salient features of the tournament in 2017 

Ø The prize Money for the winners of the I, II, III, and IV places are 30,000, 25,000, 15,000, and 10,000, respectively for both basketball and volleyball

Ø Around 15 teams, from within and outside the state are participating in the tournament.

Ø The teams will be divided into two pools and the tournament will be held on league-cum-knock-out basis with the top two teams from each pool qualifying from the semi-finals

Ø The teams will be awarded with medal, trophies, and prize money

The tournament will be inaugurated on 6th February, 2017 at the Games Enclave, Loyola Academy at 3.45 PM by Chief Guest:Lt. Col. Shri. R.S. Malhari, Commanding Officer, NCC 4, Telangana Battalion.

The Final in Volleyball will be held on Thursday 9th February, 2017 at 4 PM and the Basketball Final will be at 5.00 PM. Followed by prize Distribution by Chief Guests: ShriC.V. Anand, IPS, Additional DGP, Civil Supplies Commissioner, Telangana and Shri. Mr. Magesh, Director, (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) Hyderabad.

The 8th of Basketball and 5th edition Volleyball tournament held in 2016, were a resounding success with the ambit and scope of the tournament getting enlarged to attract teams from the east as well. A total number of 16 teams from within outside the state participated in the tournament.
