The inaugural function of 16th International Children’s Film Festival was launched on November 14th at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad. Chief Minister K Roshaiah, Central Minister Ambika Soni, State Minister Geeta Reddy, Chairman of Children’s Film Society Nandita Das, Dr Dasari Narayana Rao, Venkatesh, Ileana, Gulzar, Vishal Bharadwaj, Partha Saradhi and child artist Darshan were the prominent in the inaugural function.
While the Central Minister Ambika Soni lite the lamp, Chief Minister K Roshaiah unveiled the Golden Elephant.
Addressing the gathering Chief Minister K Roshaiah said, “Today is the most important day in Indian history. It is the birthday of Nehruji who was the first Prime Minister after India’s independence and ruled for 17 years. He loves children and used to spend most of his leisure time with them. On the eve of his birthday, the inaugural function of this 16th International Children’s Film Festival turned out to be enchanting with the colourful dance performance by the children. The first Indian feature film started as a “Mookie” and gradually developed with technology. Even though the State Governments encourage the producers to make children’s films, except for one or two producers none are showing interest to make because they do not fetch them on commercial basis. I feel if the Central Government should also increase the tax benefits along with State Governments in order to bring in more children’s films. I always prefer to watch old films because they are made of good stories and at the same time give good messages to the viewers. But the films of today have no logic. I request the young film makers to look into their past and make good films with sensible storylines. I hope that this Children’s Film Festival will become a grand success.”
Dasari Narayana Rao said, “The first Children’s film was made by KS Prakash in 1961. At this juncture it is annoying to see that Telugu films lagging behind due to ignorance by the National Award Committee whether it is for award nominations or to screen in any Film Festival.” Further speaking he said, “It is also unfortunate to say that the land sanctioned by the State Government for constructing a building for Children’s Film Society has not yet started till date. Late Rajasekhar Reddy garu gave his declaration for construction of the building. Therefore I request K Roshaiah garu to start the project immediately. It is very essential to transfer the CFS office to Hyderabad after the completion of the building.”
All other guests too spoke on the dais and hoped for the grand success of the Children's Film Festival.
