State government is committed to bring qualitative changes in the lives of nomadic Chenchu tribe found in Warangal District informed Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary while addressing at the 100years celebrations of the world’s largest service organization, The Lions Clubs International(LCI) , here in city on Saturday night.
Madhusudhana Chary was the Chief Guest at the Celebrations of the Lions as well as Santhosham, the first Annual Convention of Newly Formed Lions Multi District—MD 320 held at Classic Garden, Secunderabad on Saturday late into the night.
Addressing the 2000 plus gathering of Lion Members from Telangana and Karnataka, the Speaker said he had witnessed two different worlds—one outside the gate of this venue and the other inside.
Madhusudhana Chary said he found Chenchu tribe families from Chennapur village in Regonda mandal and Jadalapeta (Bhavusinghpally) in Chityala mandal in Warangal. We are so developed here, they are in such abject poverty that they could not even afford to have decent clothes. Still today, they hunt rats in the fields for their survival. They are still living in uncivilized life. They don’t even have decent clothes to cover their bodies. They have not even visited Warangal in their life time , he told them.
I have facilitated their visit to the Warangal city, he told them. He also announced that he planned to bring Chenchus to Hyderabad to make sure that they watch Assembly proceedings from his gallery.
Speaking further Madhusudhana Chary said that they thought there were 300 such people in 2 habitats. But to his surprise there were 1210 such chenchus in 19 habitats. He urged lions to take up charity and service activities to bring qualitative changes in the lives of nomadic Chenchu tribe. You can contribute in your own small way to bring the Chenchu tribe into mainstream by providing them education, housing, nutritious food and medical assistance, he told them. For which few lion members have readily come forward and made an announcement of rupees Ten Lakhs Donation.
Lions are really doing a yeoman service. The Speaker recalled the yeoman service rendered single handedly by Senior Lion Dr. Vijay Paul Reddy in his constitution—Bhupalapally in Warangal District. He donated Rs 1.2crore out of Rs 2 Crore required to restore an old temple Kukumeshwara in Parkal District.
Lion Vijay Kumar Raju International Director, Lions Clubs International delivered the key note address. Lion B. Narsimha Reddy, Council Chairman, MD 320; Lion Sunil Kumar R, Past International Director and Lion K. Govindaraj, Area GLT Leader, LCI also graced the occasion.
1917 to 2017, the world’s biggest service organizations, The Lions Clubs International has given over a Billion Dollar, Rs 6700crore towards charitable projects all over the world. This charity was done through its charitable arm Lions Clubs International Foundation.
To mark the 100years celebration and celebrate the occasion Six Padma Awardees were honoured. These include 01. Padma Shri Chandrakant Pithawa, Distinguished Scientist; 02. The New Multiple District, MD 320 was inaugurated and its first Anuual Convention, Santhosham held. To commemorate the accassion, Lions Lead Awards, the first Leadership Excellence Awards for the Distinguished were presented
Nearly 2500 Lion members from Telangana and Karnataka have attended the function.
Lions Clubs across MD 320, pledged to take on major activity to commemorate the 100 years of Lionism. Some key areas of activity include establishment of permanent projects in the areas of Vision Care; Education; Diabetes; Children’s Health Parks and other legacy projects that will connect a more vibrant and active Lionism with the communities.
Lions also announced that they would collaborate with GHMC and take up the activity of establishing Children’s Parks and other activities taken up in this Multiple District during its 100 years celebrations.
