Metamorphorescence: An Art Exhibition by Pranati Khanna at Muse Art Gallery

The title I’ve given this event is perhaps the word that most appropriately and adequately defines and describes the series of art works that I will be exhibiting – a fusion of Metamorphosis and Phosphorescence. Where the negatives in my own life have drawn on the light of transformation and created a burning realisation for which art has been the outlet.
As a child I could never have dreamed I would be an artist but I always loved drawing. In fact I chose to illustrate rather than act out my emotions, even when I was very little. Anger, joy, sadness, all found expression through my crayons and pencils. Art is in my blood. As the grandniece of eminent artist Krishan Khanna, I grew up in a home where his paintings and those of other Masters like M.F. Hussain, Bendre and Gaitonde, were all around me. It came as no surprise to my family when I took Art as a subject in Senior School, went on to win first prize in an Inter School Art Competition, and won a coveted award for my school in a National Art Competition.
My discovery of art took different routes but I knew what I wanted to do with my talent when I stood inside the Sistine Chapel in Rome. When I finished School I opted for a course in Art and Animation and honed my skills in drawing. My Digital Tablet has been my constant companion through my years in College. It is an extension of my thoughts and beautifully translates my visual ideas into flowing form. My Camera has been my other companion - capturing the intensity of landscapes, people and objects and allowing me the unparalleled freedom to merge mediums and textures that take on new life on my computer screen. I have been exploring New Media Art over the last four years and my art works have found a place on the walls of homes in Dubai, U.S.A. and India.
To me art is self-affirmation. It is seeing oneself as whole, despite imperfections, and finding peace within that acceptance. That was my journey. From discovery… to angst… to maturity… and acceptance. From being someone who questioned my own worth to evolving into an individual who found truth and beauty outside known boundaries.
Life is my inspiration – the emotional rollercoaster we are all subjected to, particularly as we negotiate the bends and curves of day to day existence. Each of my canvasses is a reflection of a thought, an experience or an emotion that stands out as a landmark in my journey so far.
