PINK RIBBON CAMPAIGN 2012 LAUNCHED EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER MUST BECOME A NATIONAL PRIORITY
Hyderabad — Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) and the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad announced the launch of the Pink Ribbon Campaign 2012 to mark the beginning of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Dr P. Raghu Ram, CEO & Director of UBF announced that the Foundation is this year celebrating its FIFTH Anniversary and that it has successfully completed FIVE years serving the community in Andhra Pradesh. He said that 'since Sept 2007, UBF has left no stone unturned in its mission to empower people about the importance of early detection of Breast cancer through a number of unique and innovative initiatives, some of which have attracted national and International attention.
The signature event of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2012 is the Pink Ribbon Walk 2012, being held for the FOURTH consecutive year on Sunday, Oct. 7 at KBR Park at 6 a.m. The walk honors women who have fought the illness with determination as well as educate people about the importance of early detection.
Actor John Abraham & Sports Personality, VVS Laxman have been the Star campaigners for the Pink Ribbon Walk 2012. Over the past two weeks, they have actively campaigned & empowered people about the importance of early detection of breast cancer through television and Radio. Celebrities and people from all walks of life will be participating at the Pink Ribbon Walk 2012.
As part of the pink ribbon campaign, Paint the City Pink is being organized for the THIRD consecutive year. On the night of Oct. 7, prominent buildings in Hyderabad — Charrninar, the Buddha statue, U.S. Consulate & HPS (Begumpet) — will he illuminated to demonstrate the strength of pink, a color that represents breast cancer awareness.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Katherine Dhanani said, "Our participation salutes women cancer survivors and encourages those lighting the disease not to give up. We walk together to show our solidarity and commitment to spread the word about early detection." Given the expense of mammograms for rural and underprivileged women, IMF is spearheading a campaign to conduct breast exams to detect cancer early. "With the aim of ensuring early detection of breast cancer and ensuring long-term survival, Mil: has trained 1,200 health care workers in August to perform clinical breast examinations (CU), A screening tool to detect early breast cancer," said CFO and Director of Raghit Ram.
