Flurys, situated at GVK One Mall, Food Court was founded in the year 1927 by Mr and Mrs J Flury at Park Street in Kolkata. Within no time, it gained immense popularity to become the favorite tea - room of the prosperous Britisher and the affluent Indian alike. This was largely due to its exotic cakes, creamy pastries, rich puddings and perhaps the best Swiss chocolates outside the European continent, and in no small measure to the relaxed and cheerful atmosphere that it provided. With the passage of time, Flurys became a part of the culture of Kolkata and no morning walker’s daily routine was complete without a visit to this legendary eatery.

Flurys, as it stands today, is an institution in the city and evokes strong emotions among generations. It’s a place where one can slowly sip a cup of tea or eat the famous rumballs or meringues with cream and watch the world go by. Flurys offers an old world atmosphere and a glimpse of the modern Hyderabad of another era. Hyderabad invokes the image of a city which is rich in culture and tradition. The people of this city are known for their love for good cuisine and as a result a large number of eating places in the city have also become a part of the rich heritage of the city. Flurys - a name synonymous since time immemorial with popular Swiss confectionary and mouthwatering goodies is a prime example of the same.

About The Park Hyderabad:
The Park. Hyderabad blends contemporary and vernacular architectural traditions with sustainable design techniques. The hotel incorporates 270 guest rooms, deluxe and presidential suites, 3 restaurants, banquet halls, 4 bars, lounges and entertainment venues. The opening of Flurys, in its new version, is a moment of great joy for the city which has loved this tearoom. People have told me that Flurys is beloved because it has become a part of their lives, as much as it is a part of the life of Apeejay Surrendra.
The tearoom was established by Mr and Mrs Flury in 1926, as a shop for excellent Swiss confectionary; their dedication and commitment to quality ensured that Flurys became a household name and its fame spread beyond Kolkata and was known all over the country as a benchmark for great cakes, great coffee and superb baked goods.
We bought Flurys in 1965. When I was supervising the construction of the building that is now The Park, just across the street from here, I used to see Mr Flury walking from the tearoom to his factory, which was located where Apeejay House now stands.

One day I asked him if the rumours were true that he was selling his famous tearoom. He replied in the affirmative and mentioned that while there were prospective buyers, nobody was willing to take him on trust. I thought, this is unfortunate, for Flurys is a legacy that one should value. So I told him that “I will trust you” and buy Flurys on whatever terms he decided. He was looking for a buyer who would take him on trust and I felt that with trust everything becomes smoother and faster. The deal was done and Flurys changed hands.

It has been our endeavour and now the baton has passed on to my niece Priya, to maintain Flurys as a confectioner of excellence. Its reputation has remained, proof of which is its popularity. My niece Priya who looks after The Park chain of hotels and has through hard work, dedication and flair turned The Park chain into one of India’s leading hotel groups decided some time back that Flurys needed a makeover. It had to be modernised and renovated to meet the demands of the 21st century customers.

I offer to you the new Flurys and the promise that the standards of excellence established by the original family are a tradition that we as a family have adopted as our own. Flurys on Park Street is a landmark and it is a heritage. We have looked after it and we will continue to look after it.
