Brief about Winthrop Professor Hema Sharda
Prof Sharda migrated to Austarlia in 1984 after completing her education from Delhi University and prestigious IIT Delhi. She also completed her PhD from UWA in the field of microelectronics. When Prof sharda migrated, she found there was lot of awareness gap between Indian and Australia n Universities. . She has tirelessly worked for past 25 years in bridging this gap by sharing information jon both sides on education, training and skills.
Presently Prof Sharda is the Director of South Asia Relations at the Vice Chancellory at UWA and has contributed in building strong links and ties with IIT’s, IISc Bangalore & many central universities and institutes and research organisations. She was awarded distinguish alumni award by Hindu College, Delhi University in recognition of her work in Australia India relations. Prof Sharda is married and her Professor is also IIT D alumni and Professor of Computer Science. She has two children; her son is an IT entrepreneur and her daughter is upcoming Bollywood actress, Pallavi sharda who appears in a lead role in Abhinav kashyap’s new movie called “Besharam” opposite India’s No.l actor, Ranbir kapoor.

‘In Hyderabad, we work closely on research relations with CCMB, ICRISAT, and University of Hyderabad. We are also working closely with IIT H and Prof Desai, Director at IIT H had visited UWA. We will explore joint research degree, supervision, staff and student exchange with premier partners. We have a major research project with ICRESAT’ said Prof Sharda. The Project is about ‘chickpea drought, heat and salinity resistance -use of genomics approaches’. The university of Western Australia academics regularly visit Central University Hyderabad, Osmania University and JNTU and good affiliated colleges.
UWA has produced Noble Laureates in the field of Medicine, Prof. Barry Marshal and Prof Robyn Warren. Prof Barry Marshal has given public lectures in Hyderabad at CCMB and Osmania University and his area of Infectious Diseases attracts many students from India.

UWA is very popular for its Engineering Programs among Hyderabad students as UWA offer two years masters program in all branches of engineering ranging from Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, Environmental, Mechanical, Mining & Software. UWA also offers some partial fee relief to meritorious students in engineering course work programs. Typically a student must have an average of 60% in the final two years and an IELTS score of 6.5 with no band less than 6. To qualify for partial fee relief they must have 65% and above.
