The Yacht Club Hyderabad, the Marriott Hyderabad Hotel & Convention Centre, Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and the Hyderabad Western Music Foundation present ‘Monsoon Jazz 2014’, a concert by Sharik Hasan:

Sharik Hasan is one of the leading pianists and composers of his generation to emerge from India. He has spent several years studying jazz and classical music in France and the United States. He has performed at music festivals all over the world and shared the stage with luminaries such as John Patitucci, Adam Nussbaum and David Liebman.

This event is in aid of the Y&cht Club's "Dignity through Sports" charitable program that facilitates the sporting and educational careers of children from economically weaker sections.

Donor Passes to support this cause are available at Rs. 2500 /1000 / 250 (Admissio for one person only). The passes are available for purchase at the Goethe-Zentrum office between 9 am and 4 pm, or at the venue on July 3rd from 5.30 pm onwards. The seating will be on first-come first-served basis.

Pawan Benjamin learned the saxophone from an early age under avant-garde jazz legend, Roscoe Mitchell. His knowledge of Western harmony, and the Jazz tradition, paired with his knowledge of the music of India and Nepal, has given him a unique worldly perspective of music which he applies as a saxophonist, bansuri artist, as well as a composer and producer. An alumnus of Manhattan School of Music (MSM) and Chhandayan Centre for Indian Music, he has performed across the globe at some of the most prestigious festivals and concert venues, from India and Nepal, to France, the Netherlands, and across the US.

Born in Rome, bassist Marco Zenini graduated in classical music in Italy and jazz in Netherlands. He studied electric bass and double bass from the age of 16 and since then he had and intense live activity in different musical environments (from classical orchestras to funk/rock ensembles and jazz).

He moved to Amsterdam in 2010, to study in the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam and work as a musician in the Netherlands. He has performed in major venues and festivals in the Netherlands and Italy in addition to having traveled and played shows throughout Europe, as well as Turkey and South Africa.

Philippe Lemm is one of the most in- demand jazz drummers in The Netherlands.

Born 1985 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands he started his musical journey at the age of 16. At the age of 19 he was admitted at The Amsterdam Conservatory. In his second year at the conservatory Philippe started touring internationally with jazz trumpeter Saskia Laroo as well as leading his own group Wazabe. At the end of his studies in Amsterdam Philippe was playing with renowned Dutch jazz musicians like; Karel Boehlee (Toots Thielemans), Jorg Kaaij (Jazz Orchestra of the Concert Gebouw) and Peter Tiehuis (Metropole Orchestra).
In 2011 he was a recipient of one of themost prestigious scholarships in TheNetherlands; Huygens Scholarship, whichallowed him to continue his studies at Manhattan School of Music with John Riley.

Renowned stages Mr. Lemm performed on include Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center DC, Concert Gebouw, Bimhuis and North Sea Jazz Festival. He appears on over 50 cd’s as a side man and released 6 records with groups that he leads or co-leads.

Currently Philippe Lemm is working with the New York based group Life Size, Angelo Di Loreto Trio, Olli Hirvonen Quartet, Sharik Hasan New York Quartet, Pat Carroll Group and vocalist Andrea Wood to name a few.

Sharik Hasan is one of the leading pianists and composers of his generation to emerge from India. He spent several years studying jazz and classical music in France and the USA while also working in Indian classical musical traditions.

He started his tryst with the piano at the age of five and by sixteen, had completed the curriculum of the Royal School of Music, London. He then went to the United States to attend Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music.

In 2007, Hasan moved to Paris for two years to study at the Bill Evans Piano Academy where the young pianist integrated quickly into the jazz scene, playing in international festivals with his trio. He was subsequently awarded scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he was selected to be part of a special honors program, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, under the tutelage of Danilo Perez. He has performed at venues all over the world including the Blue Note (New York), Panama Jazz Festival, Kriol Jazz Festival (Cape Verde), Nancy Jazz Festival (France). Lincoln Center (New York) and has shared the stage with luminaries such as John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Wayne Shorter, Terri Lyne Carrington. Adam Nussbaum, Ralph Peterson, and David Liebman among others.

Sharik Hasan currently lives and works in New York City with a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
