Aakruthi Vastra Exhibition (July 2014)

Aakruthi Vastra an exhibition of textiles by Crafts Council . The exhibition will be inaugurated by Hon'ble Lady Governor Smt.Vimala Narasimhan on the 10th,11th and 12th of July 2014. The exhibition comprises of a wide array of sarees, textiles and crafts by weaves and designers from across the country. This year will witness

1. Godavari Women from Mandapeta who weave traditional Uppada Sarees.They are given a free stall to promote them.
2. Chirika are given a free stall to promote their sale of handloom sarees, kuppadam sarees and duppattas.
3. Brass Track a designer from Chennai making tunics, dresses, shirts, pants and tops.
4. Ajrakh Print and Natural Dyes from Gujarat who is a National Award Winner.
5. Lai Chand Chippa from Jaipur who does fine Dabu Prints.
6. Arjun Chauhan who is a weaver from Madhya Pradesh.
7. Kachara Saree Bunkar Mustkim a weaver from Kota weaving Handloom kota doria jari sarees.

Crafts Council is a non-profit organization which has been re-vitalising crafts, embroideries, weaving traditions with design inputs to weavers to match the contemporary market requirements. Over the last two decades it has conducted various activities like documentation, training programmes, workshops, seminars and exhibitions. The proceeds are used for various welfare schemes, for the benefit of craftsmen and weavers as the emphasis has been not only on crafts but also on the craftsman and his needs.

Activities of Craft Council Of Andhra Pradesh

Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh has since its inception in 1987 focused on promoting Crafts ,on helping craftsmen and on improving the employment prospects of Craftsmen.

Most programs that have been conducted by CCAP may not be quantifiable in monetary terms like other commercial organizations. The workshops, training programs, documentation , exhibitions , sales , conferences have been conducted with the express idea of benefiting a crafts group or community.

The aim of all these activities was to either improve their skills their design techniques or their market Numerous medical camps have been held to give them access to good and sincere doctors

Survey & Documentation

1) Survey and Documentation of the languishing Silver Filigree art . Product development and Exhibition with the help of the APHDC. Now there is no looking back for the silver filigree artisans.
2) Tunga Mat -Survey & Documentation ; Product Development and Training Scheme.
3) Documentation of household utensils of AP . “Metal Utensils” Workshops & Training Schemes

1) Training and workshops in needlework & vegetable dyes. 15 Banjara women were enrolled in a training scheme sponsored by the O/o DC(H) to improve their inherent skills.
2) Natural Dye Workshop with KV Chandramouli for the handloom weavers of Andhra Pradesh.
3) Natural Dye and Design Development work shop in Kondapally for wooden toy artisans , sponsored by Lanco Power Project.
4) Design & Technical Development, Natural Dye workshop for the Nirmal Toy Society .
5) Design & Technical Development, Natural Dye workshop for the Leather Puppeteers in 2005
6) Follow up design development program held in 2006 Exhibitions & Sales

1) Regular exhibitions and sales of handlooms and crafts
2) Exhibitions and sales of handlooms and handicrafts at smaller cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Nellore .
3) PRAVEENYA - to honour Award Winners of our State for excellence in craft
4) JYOTHIRGAMAYA - An enlightening exhibition of lamps of South India
5) CHITRA VALI - A colourful kaleidoscope of paintings
6) TARKASHI - Delicate Silver Filigree Exhibition
7) ANANYA - An exhibition of rare textiles
8) Participation in “KAMALA” Exhibitions to show case quality crafts every year in different parts of India .
9) ”SANMAANM-a competition held periodically for crafts persons .
10) KAMALA CRAFT OUTLET opened in Hyderabad, to give the craftsmen an opportunity to showcase their wares and find a good market in LAL1THA

PRAVEENYAM SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
Lalitha Praveenyam Scholarship Fund has been created in memory of our late Chairperson Lalitha Prasad to aid children of craftsmen who learn their traditional craft.
