SS Rajamouli’s ‘Eega’ got pirated despite taking advanced cautions. However the police swung into action and caught the pirate gang. ‘Eega’ was released on July 6th and the box-office collections are tremendous in India and the US even during its 3rd week. To take extra precautions and eradicate piracy in future a press meet was organised at Film Chamber in Hyderabad. D Suresh Babu, SS Rajamouli, Sravanthi Ravikishore, C Kalyan, Ashok Kumar, Burugupalli Sivarama Krishna and others participated.
D Suresh Babu said, “The theater owners and distributors have been irresponsible despite sending advance notices to them even before the release of the film. A day before the release of ‘Naan Ee’, the film got pirated at 2.58 AM. This is absolutely due to carelessness of theater owners. Similarly piracy took place in Sri Vajreswari Theater in Karnataka and Gauri Shankar theater in Chittoor. Those involved in it were arrested and the theaters were seized by the police. Apart from this the licenses of 5 theaters have been cancelled. The email ids and accounts of pirates will also be closed. We need the support of film producers to eradicate piracy completely. The anti-piracy team and police department are helpless without the support of film industry. The producers should come forward to support us without thinking about expenditure.”
SS Rajamouli said, “We can easily trace the culprit by using our technology. Not only uploading the videos, but downloading is also a crime. We can figure out where and when the piracy was done with the help of watermark on the print.. In earlier time the theater watchman used to check the cinema hall with a torch light some time after the film begins. But we don’t follow that system anymore. I wish the Film Chamber will inplement the same once again.”
Burugupalli Sivaramakrishna commented, “We request the government to issue non-bailable warrant to the cases registered with the police department.”
