Sumalatha is a film actress who is mainly famous in Malayalam Cinema.
She was born in Chennai, India on 27th August 1963 and made movies in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi.
Personal Life:
V. Madan Mohan and V. Roopa Mohan are Sumalatha's parents. She has one sibling named Rajender Prasad.
She was married to Ambareesh, he was died in the year 2018. They have a son named Ambareesh Abhishek.
Career:
The acting career of Sumalatha started in 1979 when she won the Andhra-Pradesh Beauty Contest and her photographs were spotlighted on the cover of a magazine.
D. Ramanaidu gave her an offer to act in his Tamil film Thisai Maariya Paravaigal. In this she stepped into her acting debut in films. She earned her first career award of Devar's Best New Face Award for her debut film.
She signed her first Tollywood movie Samajaniki Saval in the same year. In the following year, through the Ravichandra(Kannada) and Moorkhan(Malayalam) movies, she made her debut in Malayalam and Kannada.
Furthermore, in 1988 she made her debut in the Hindi film New Delhi by Jeetendra in which she featured the leading role of Maria Fernandes.
She acted with several Southern superstars such as Rajnikanth at the early stage of her career. To whom she has served after Rati Agnihotri in more movies. And in films like Kazhugu and Murattu Kaalai this duo pair has appeared.
She also starred with Malayalam’s legendary actor Jayan in movies like Moorkhan and Kolilakkam -1981, which was Jayan's last movie.
Her most excellent roles in Malayalam movies are Nirakkoottu, Thazhvaram and Isabella. In 1987 she starred in the Shruti layalu Telugu film opposite Rajasekhar and again, with unrivaled acting abilities in the Tollywood, she received the Nandi award and the Film Fans Award for the best actress.
Furthermore, she has starred with Superstar Rajkumar, Kallarali Hoovagi, Aahuti, Ravichandran, Avatara Purusha, Karna, and Tayi Kanasu, in most films in Kannada.
She has featured in over 200 films, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada Since 1979. She is the star actress of the film industry in the south. She too entered politics after her husband's passing. Since rejecting a seat from JDS, she agreed to challenge the elections in 2019 independently.
She was one of the only independent candidates who secured the general elections in 2019.
