K Balachander honored with Dadasaheb Phalke award

Legendary director K Balachander was honored with a Dadasaheb Phalke award for the year 2010. In the past, the producer cum director has received several state and national awards including the prestigious Padma Shri in 1987.

The 80 year old filmmaker was given the award for his contribution to Indian Cinema for about 4 decades. The veteran director, who is best known as KB has written, directed and produced more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada languages. Some of the most unforgettable Telugu films are ‘Idi Katha Kadu’, ‘Anthuleni Katha’, Akali Rajyam’, Maro Charitra’ (Ek Duje Ke Liye in Hindi), ‘Rudraveena’, etc., apart from his exceptional work in Tamil films like ‘Apoorva Ragangal’, ‘Achamillai Achamillai’, ‘Iru Kodugal’, ‘Thaneer Thaneer’, ‘Oru Veedu Iru Vaasal’, ‘Thillu Mullu’, ‘Sindhu Bhairavi’, etc.

Balachander introduced many stars like Kamal Hassan, Rajnikanth, Jayapradha, Sridevi, Saritha, Prakash Raj, etc. His serials like ‘Kadhal Pagadai, Kai Alavu Manasu, Rayil Sneham, Jannal Anni, Premi, etc., have been the most successful ones.
