AM Ratnam on Thursday was greeted by Power Star Pawan Kalyan on his birthday. The founder of Sri Surya Movies, which made a number of super-duper hits over the decades came in for praise from the actor-politician.

"Long before pan-India movies and multi-lingual films became commonplace, Ratnam garu made them and achieved success," Pawan said, taking the example of films such as 'Bharateeyudu'.

The 'Vakeel Saab' actor suggested that Ratnam's movies made everyone sit up and take notice of the potential of our cinema. He said that Ratnam is the first producer he had ever asked to make a film with him in the initial years of his career. "I have known him for many years. A relative of his is a good friend of mine in Nellore. He gave me the memorable hit 'Kushi'. His films never missed out on artistic value while being commercial," Pawan said.

The duo is currently doing a film with Krish Jagarlamudi.
