It was on this day (January 11) in 1964 that late filmmaker B Jaya was born. Known as the dynamic female director of Tollywood, she was a multi-faceted personality.

In an industry dominated by men, Jaya, with her unique directorial sense and craft, became a superb filmmaker in the 2000s and continued her stint in the 2010s as well. Her films such as 'Chantigadu' and 'Lovely' were not only sensible but also hugely enjoyable. In the history of the Telugu film industry, only a couple of women have made a name for themselves in the field of direction. The first one has to be Vijaya Nirmala. And Jaya is the only other one who comes to people's minds.

With films like ‘Gundamma Gari Manavadu’ and others, Jaya showed how to mix a relevant message with entertainment. Her films made the moolah at the box-office. It was her knack for writing stories that helped her become a creative filmmaker.

She was also academically-inclined. A post-graduate in English and Psychology, Jaya knew the art of managing people. She was also a publisher and established 'Super Hit' magazine in association with her husband, BA Raju (the star PRO of Tollywood). Jaya engaged herself with its activities till her last breath.

The popular director passed away on 30 August 2018 due to a heart attack. She was 54.
