Vikrant Massey's retirement: Hindutva wingers float a wild theory

It is known that Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey announced his retirement from acting on Monday. He is just 37. On the back of the success of '12th Fail', his career has taken off.

Vikrant's latest release is 'The Sabarmati Report', a political drama described by the anti-BJP forces as a pro-Modi government propaganda movie. A wild theory has emerged after Vikrant announced his retirement. As per this theory, the actor has been pushed to the corner by a certain anti-BJP lobby in the Hindi film industry for doing 'The Sabarmati Report'. "With Vikrant Massey choosing to step away because Islamists have issued death threats to him because of 'Sabarmati Report' and dragged his infant son into it, let's come back to the pavilion and evaluate how much gunk has been stripped off and hidden away from us as a community," wrote a senior journalist.

There is a contrasting theory. Leftists have claimed that Vikrant wants his latest film to receive the maximum publicity and that's why he has pulled off a "publicity stunt" by announcing his retirement. "Vikrant will come back. This is just a stunt," the theory goes.

It is unlikely that Vikrant has been intimidated by anybody to stop doing films. Gone are the days when the underworld used to threaten Bollywoodians who intended to make politically incorrect movies. After 'Kashmir Files', 'Kerala Files', 'Uri' and the recent Savarkar biopic, making pro-Hindutva movies doesn't make anybody unpopular.
