Prolific producer S Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments has dismissed concerns about the rising cost of cinema ticket prices. In an interview, the producer of films like 'Bheemla Nayak' and 'Tillu Square' justified the rates. He is the distributor of Jr NTR's 'Devara' in the Telugu States.
"Take the example of the recent 'Devara'. On single screens, each ticket cost Rs 250. If a family of four watched 'Devara', it wouldn't have cost them more than Rs 1,500, including food & beverages. Tell me one other thing that engages you for three straight hours at just Rs 1,500," Naga Vamsi said.
Netizens are in disagreement with him. "For Rs 1,500 1. You get an Amazon Prime and Netflix subscription. 2. Family of four can enjoy a tummy full of biryani. 3. You could travel to your hometown and spend time with your loved ones. 4. You could share a beer or two with your friends. Movies aren't the only entertainment people can have," wrote Social Experiment, a social media user.
To each, his own. If a producer and distributor like Naga Vamsi is justifying something many of us feel excessive, maybe, he knows that high ticket rates haven't really impacted his films' revenues. Maybe, his banner is making the best movies and he doesn't need to worry about price elasticity.
