Actor Nani has announced a new film as a producer. Nithiin will be headlining this love story in which the male protagonist is, surprise, a Telugu novelist. The title Alias Rukmini is a reference to the wife of the author in what looks like a feel-good romance.
Announcing the project, Nani made a huge statement. "Love stories are special. But when it comes with a unique backdrop and a terrific cast and crew it becomes memorable. With Nithiin, we are making something you will all fall in love with. It will be unanimous," the HIT 3 and Dasara star wrote. "You will talk a lot about this film," Nithiin, who hasn't had a hit in more than six years, added. The film, to be released early next year, is directed by Muralikanth Devasoth, the director of the period drama film Dhandoraa (2025).
The buzz in the industry is that the story wasn't meant for a commercial hero like Nithiin. It was Nani himself who suggested his name to the director. Nithiin's previous four movies (Macherla Niyojakavargam, Extra Ordinary Man, Robinhood, and Thammudu) were disasters. The colossal failure of Thammudu is why he missed out on Yellamma, which is now being fronted by Devi Sri Prasad (yes, he is the hero of the film). He agreed to do Alias Rukmini without taking a single rupee of remuneration.
Barring Sri Anjaneyam and, to an extent, Srinivasa Kalyanam, nothing that Nithiin has done in his career has been a surprise choice. Almost all his films were safe projects, giving no reason to look up to most of them. Alias Rukmini is his biggest non-regular choice yet.
