Director Deva Katta is known for distinctly new-age films: Vennela and Prasthanam. His previous theatrical release, Sai Dharam Tej's Republic, is acclaimed for its unusual climax. In recent years, he has been exploring the television series format. Last year, he created Mayasabha in collaboration with his First AD and co-director Kiran Jay Kumar. A year later, he reunited with Kiran for another project.
A unique backdrop:
Jo Jo is the name. After handling serious subjects, this time, Deva Katta has gone in for a genre shift: a raw, rustic romantic comedy. This is not to say that Jo Jo is going to be all fun and frolic. Set in the diamond fields of Jonnagiri, it is going to be rooted and hyper-local in its aesthetic. Expect also tongue-in-cheek humour. Sharing the film's first look, Deva Katta asked the "manobhavala batch" to stay away. It's going to be a "whirlwind of romance, comic misadventures, greed, betrayal and danger".
Two male leads and a female lead dot the plot. Krishna Kamal and Maahi Sri play the lead roles. Phanindra Devarapalli, Prabhavathi, Mahaboob Basha, Satish Devatte Tanjore, Puduru Sharath Babu and Makarand Deshpande are playing different roles.
Witty dialogue, wild twists:
Rohith Kumar (cinematography), Mahesh Shankar (music), and Madhav Kumar Gullapalli (editing) are working on the film. Written by director Kiran Jay Kumar himself, the show is set in an arid landscape. Since two down-on-their-luck dreamers team up with a bold young woman in search of a single, life-altering diamond, expect messaging as well. "What begins as a straightforward quest for riches quickly spirals into a series of wild, unexpected twists," the makers say. Expect a fast-paced, lighthearted ride filled with colorful characters and witty dialogue. Shows of this style blend the suspense and high stakes of a treasure hunt.
