Recently, at a Dalit meet held in Hyderabad, writer Vijayendra Prasad openly expressed deep shame and guilt over the "actions" of his ancestors. He described them as having committed "horrific, unspeakable atrocities" in the name of untouchability and caste discrimination, despite his family being very wealthy and upper-caste. He contrasted this by noting that his own father had no caste bias and that he financially supported and roomed Vijayendra Prasad with a Dalit. "John Fedrick Sundar Rao used to live with me during my college days at Loyola after we both passed SSC," the Baahubali and RRR writer said.
The celebrated screenwriter stated that he feels ashamed to have been born into such a lineage, and since he continues to benefit from the family's inherited wealth and property, he considers himself a partner in those ancestral sins.
This is nothing but Woke ideology, which expects the entire upper-caste population to acknowledge its "privilege" and also feel guilty about the "sins" perpetuated by their ancestors. Many Hindutva votaries reject the claim that upper-caste Indians have committed atrocities for thousands of years.
A political question to ask would be this: Will Vijayendra Prasad's thinking reflect in Varanasi? Least likely, for he has always held such a belief. Rajamouli is aware of the fact that a pan-Indian film can't feel like a Tamil social movie. Moreover, Prasad himself is an RSS sympathizer. His admission of guilt directly stems from his Hindutva sympathies rather than Marxist persuasions.
