In his latest interview, Pawan Kalyan recalled his conversations with Tamilians in 2014 when he was in Pollachi. "At that time, my interactions with many confirmed the fact that the Tamil public had been looking for a fresh face in politics. They expected Ajith and/or Vijay to occupy the emerging political space," the Dy CM of Andhra Pradesh told News 18.
The Ustaad Bhagat Singh actor further said, "Ajith spoke his heart out at an event. It was deemed as gutsy because he took on the DMK." This is a reference to Ajith saying, in the presence of then CM M Karunanidhi, that actors shouldn't be forced to attend political events. At that time, even Vijay and Superstar Rajinikanth were present at the venue.
Ajith has been temperamentally against even maintaining fan clubs. Without nurturing such clubs, there is no way anybody can hope to make a mark in politics upon their debut. Moreover, Ajith's caste identity works against his rise in politics. On the other hand, Vijay has always nurtured fan clubs actively, using them for social service activities.
Pawan Kalyan's reference to Ajith when he knows well the reality of the Kollywood star's disinterest in public life is surprising.
