After the release of the trailer of Dhurandhar 2 today, discerning movie buffs have praised the 3-minute-25-second trailer for its "peak editing". The trailer features relentless action and high-stakes dialogue (an example being, "Now, India will decide the future of Pakistan") without actually spoiling the main plot.
The trailer for the first part, released last year, was even more fascinating. For one, it had a philosophical tone. For another, instead of focusing solely on Ranveer Singh, it gave weight to Akshaye Khanna’s gangster character, and Madhavan’s portrayal of a strategic mastermind. Its final moments, featuring a stretch from its most popular remix.
Let's make a prediction:
The way the two trailers have been cut, they are certainly going to become trend-setters in due course of time. In the coming years, Telugu action dramas are going to mimic their pattern of editing, stylization, and character intros. This would work only and only if the story is expansive and characters other than that of the hero are written with a certain degree of enigma. The editor needs to be provided with enough material to cut Dhurandhar-style trailers. We might see films like The Paradise (where Mohan Babu has a strong role) trying to mimic the style popularized by the Dhurandhar trailers. Our bets are also on Prabhas' Fauzi. Jr NTR's Dragon is unlikely to follow the style, considering Prashanth Neel is himself a trend-setter and has a voice of his own.
