Ugly Story, billed as a "bold romantic thriller" telling the story of an obsessed husband and a traumatized wife, is slated to hit the cinemas on May 22.
Its trailer was launched today in the presence of Bheemla Nayak fame Sagar K Chandra. Nandu plays a perverted lover boy who stalks and marries Avika Gor's character against her wishes. His exual advances eventually crystallize into marital rape.
Speaking at the movie's trailer launch event today, director Pranava Swaroop suggested that Ugly Story explores the dark side of many love stories. "Our film brings out the ugly truth in a frank manner. The lead performances are powerful. I thank our producers for their total cooperation in ensuring the best quality," the director added, promising thrills in theatres.
Avika Gor stated that the film is not trying to make toxicity look desirable. "We are trying to show what it actually does to a person," she added. "For the first time in my career, I felt disgusted while playing a character. Because I couldn't put myself in the shoes of such an agonized person," she added.
Actor Nandu, who was seen in films like Psych Siddhartha, said that the character really challenged him. "You can expect several thrilling and engaging moments throughout. The direction is brilliant," he shared.

Also starring Raviteja Mahadasyam, Sivaji Raja, and Pragya, the film has music composed by Shravan Bharadwaj. Shrie Saikumaar Daara is the cinematographer. Mithun Soma and Srikanth Patnaik R have edited the movie. Art Direction is by Vithal Kosanam. The dance choreography is by Eshwar Penti. Chathurvedhi Thirunagari and Uday Appala have taken care of the sound design.
