There is a new female director in the town. At a time when Neeraja Kona is gearing up to make her directorial debut with Siddhu Jonnalagadda's 'Telusu Kada', an RJ-turned-filmmaker is going to make a debut in Tollywood in her capacity as a director. She is Swetha PVS, who was the voice of Krithi Shetty in 'Uppena'.

Her first movie will be helmed by Yash Rangineni of 'Pelli Choopulu' fame on Big Ben Cinemas. This will be the producer's seventh introduction to Telugu cinema.

Female directors have had a dull record in Telugu cinema. Lakshmi Sowjanya of 'Varudu Kaavalenu' fame is yet to deliver a hit more than two years after the release of her directorial debut. Gowri Ronanki of 'Pelli SandaD' fame hasn't been around despite scoring a hit with the Roshan Meka-Sreeleela film. Nandini Reddy is the only female director of her generation to have been around for many years.
