Geethika Tiwary is debuting on the big screen this June 2 with 'Ahimsa', starring Abhiram Daggubati as the hero. In this interview, the newcomer talks about her character in the movie and more.
The film is directed by Teja, who is pretty much known for being strict and prohibiting fun and banter on set. On top of it, 'Ahimsa' was shot in rough terrain like jungles. By the time the shoot was over, Geethika must have been exhausted.
In this interview, she says that it was her conscious choice to secure an opportunity to be introduced by Teja, who also introduced the likes of Sada and Late Uday Kiran on the big screen.
I hail from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. I started my career after Graduation. I did Ads for two jewelry companies before stepping into films. I started auditioning for roles later. It was I who first met Teja sir for a role. He then considered me for 'Ahimsa'. I knew that Teja sir is considered lucky for newcomers. I want to continue working in Telugu cinema. I couldn't have asked for a better launchpad.
At first, the director explained the story of 'Ahimsa' in brief. He told me about my character, Ahalya, who goes through a lot of trauma and torture as a vulnerable girl. She is naive yet strong in a family-oriented setting. She is soft and innocent. Due to circumstances, she has a metamorphosis in her thinking. She and her family members face a crisis. At that time, I didn't know that Abhiram was the male lead.
I came to know about the track record of Anandi Arts later. It has been great working with them.
Abhiram is a multi-talented guy. He handles production works, too. On the set, he doesn't mind giving as many retakes as are needed. Sada garu will be seen as an advocate in the movie. I don't have many scenes with her, though. And her role is so strong in relation to my character. The villains, too, have got very strong parts.
I am aware of the Telugu meaning of the title. However, Teja sir would be best suited to talk about the rationale behind the title. The jungle portions were shot in Madhya Pradesh. The locations were intense. The unit treated me so well. Initially, I had my fears. But I outgrew them fast. The film took 120 working days to be completed. I was there on set for 90 days. I haven't dubbed for my character.
I really like romantic songs. 'Ahimsa' has got a love story. 'Neethoney Neethoney' is the first song I listened to. And it has since been my favourite. The songs are entertaining and, to an extent, they are dance-centric as well. I really love to dance.
I want to play a myriad of roles. I am inspired by actors like Dhanush. The audience will embrace the roles they like the most.
