Actor Dharma says that Drinker Sai, to be released in theatres on December 27, is going to entertain the audience. In this interview, the budding hero talks about the experience of working on the film. He also throws light on his background.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into acting?
I am from Hanuman Junction in Guntur. I have always been passionate about acting and dancing, especially Chiranjeevi garu's songs. I participated in school plays, which further ignited my interest in films. My grandfather was an exhibitor, and my father worked with renowned producers. While there were suggestions to pursue filmmaking, my father initially discouraged me. Despite this, I worked in theaters and watched films daily, dreaming of becoming an actor.
Q. So, how did you take your dream forward?
After completing my engineering and establishing a successful business, I finally pursued my passion by joining Satyanand Garu's acting institute. Prabhas is my favorite actor for his natural acting, and I believe no other hero can match Chiranjeevi's grace in dance.
Q: Your character comes across as reckless and self-styled in the Trailer. What can you tell us about your role in Drinker Sai?
Drinker Sai is my debut film. I was drawn to the story immediately as it's based on real events. I even met the person who inspired the character and learned about his experiences. While the film is inspired by real life, we've incorporated fictional elements to enhance the narrative.
Q: How was the filmmaking process for Drinker Sai?
Pre-production began in 2019, and we shot the film last year. Our director, Kiran, who previously worked with Maruthi Garu, made significant story adjustments during the lockdown. He was incredibly dedicated, and the shooting process was smooth.
Q: What was your experience working with Aishwarya Sharma?
Aishwarya Sharma is a highly dedicated actress. While many actors get distracted by external factors, she remains focused and passionate throughout. Her portrayal of the character Baghi will undoubtedly impress the audience. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.
Q: How did you prepare for your role as Sai?
I observed the behavior of many drinkers, though I am not a drinker myself. Our director took me to several bars to understand their body language and mannerisms, which helped me portray the character authentically.
Q: How did Chiranjeevi garu react when you shared the story of Drinker Sai with him?
Producer Basavaraju Srinivas, a close friend of Chiranjeevi garu, once served as the general secretary of the PRP party. When I shared the story with Chiranjeevi garu, he simply said, "It's good, proceed." That's how we received his blessings. Drinker Sai blends commercial elements with a compelling love story and a strong message. To attract the audience, we included youthful content in the trailer and teaser.
Q: What message do you hope to convey through Drinker Sai?
The film will not mislead anyone about youth. The audience will understand the powerful message after watching it. The story takes a significant turn in the second half and will deeply move viewers by the pre-climax.
Q: What are your future plans?
I am currently exploring many stories and will soon share details about my upcoming project.
