Genelia D’ Souza, cute looking heroine with her sweet smile is all set to hit a hat trick with her latest ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’ under Krishna Vamsi’s direction, after her two consecutive successes ‘Dhee’ and ‘Ready’. This apart, the film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ has given her path to Bollywood industry. Many directors and producers in Bollywood are impressed with her histrionics in that film and are coming with many offers. This interview was made when she was caught by Ragalahari on the sets of ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’ in Ramoji Film City.
People think that Sasirekha Parinayam is a remake of Jab We Met? Is it so?
No. Not at all! Except that both films are made on the journey backdrop, they have no resemblance. ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’ is the film about a girl called Sasirekha (Genelia) who does not believe in dowry, hence runs away on the day of her marriage to be independent. On the journey she meets a boy called Abhimanyu (Tarun) and what happens after that is the story all about. The character of Sasirekha is very lively and practical which will be identified by every woman as they are not treated well in today’s world.
The title of the film indicates that it’s a female centric film!
No. Except for few scenes the entire film has importance to both the lead roles, i.e., hero and heroine.
How do you feel working with Krishna Vamsi?
Each one has their own style of working, so do Krishna Vamsi. Before I signed this film, I heard people calling him short-tempered and self-admirer. But later I realized that I’m fortunate enough to have got the opportunity to work with him as I feel that ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’ has graduated me one level above as an actress. Vamsi’s passion for films has influenced a lot on me.
Krishna Vamsi normally shows his heroines very glamorously. How about you in this film?
Mine is a very bubbly character in this film. The character is such that I’ve to exhibit myself like a girl next door yet I looked glamorous. The credit goes to Krishna Vamsi, as he knows exactly how to portray the heroines in his films.
Have you watched his films before?
Yes, I did. Murari is my favorite film. Loved watching it.
You have already earned good name in Telugu through ‘Bommarillu’. You recently did the same role in Tamil version and now you are going to do in Hindi too. How do you feel about that?
I feel very fortunate to have got the opportunity to do the same role in all three languages which rarely happens with other heroines
. I’m very happy about that and am completely satisfied as an actress too.
It appears that very soon you would be earning a name called ‘Run Away Bride’ as you have already done that kind of role in ‘Ready’ and now in ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’!
(Laughs) I only hope that such incidents don’t occur in my real life. I would happily accept the project ‘Run Away Bride’, if someone is ready to remake it in Telugu. Otherwise, there is no similarity between the two characters in two films that I played.
Ok. With which character would you identify yourself? Hasini or Sasirekha.
Although I’m more like Sasirekha it’s not possible to be that way all the time due to my profession. But the character of Hasini is my inspiration.
You have worked in four languages but ultimately which industry do you prefer if you are in equal demand?
Doing films in various languages exploit our talent. Similarly we will be aware of various working styles, hence I enjoy doing films in any language. But given a chance I would prefer to work more in Telugu films than other languages because I started to learn my profession only in Telugu Film Industry which is like my school and my home indeed!
How do you feel after tasting the success in all four languages at a time?
It’s a great experience and unforgettable moments of my life. Because I think I’m the only heroine to have delivered four hits in four languages at the same time.
How do you measure a film before accepting it?
Firstly I give importance to the script and my characterization in the film. Then keeping aside my remunerations, I will choose those projects that I get work comfort from the directors or producers I work with.
What diet do you take to maintain your structure?
Hmm! Nothing special. My intake is normal and I eat on time. But I never restrict myself from oily food as, you know, Biryani is one of my favorite foods. This apart, I was an athlete in my school days hence I’m fit and healthy.
Tell us about your present projects apart from ‘Sasirekha Parinayam’?
Right now I’m doing two films in Hindi. One is the remake of ‘Bommarillu’ with the title “Its My Life” under Harman Baweja’s direction and the other is “Life Partner” in the direction of Abbas Mastan.
