Gopichand celebrated the 100 days completion of his film Ranam, along with its cast and crew at a function, arranged by producer Pokuri Babu Rao at Ravi Narayana Reddy auditorium on the 4th of June. As announced earlier Dasari Narayana Rao, D. Ramanaidu and Venkatesh graced the occasion as the chief guests. The show was hosted by television anchor Jhansi.
"Ranam is the result of good team work" producer Pokuri Babu Rao said "T. Krishna (Gopichand's father) established 'Eetaram' banner 25 years ago in the view of making social and left oriented movies and I am glad that we are still following that path. So far, 12, out of the 13 movies produced by this banner have been successful. I would also like to felicitate all the directors who have worked with this banner on this occasion".
So on the request of Pokuri Babu Rao chief guests Dasari Narayana Rao, D. Ramanaidu and Venkatesh felicitated Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Muthyala Subbayya, Mohana Gandhi, Muppalaneni Siva, A.S. Ravi Kumar Chowdary and M.V.S. Haranadha Rao. Rajamani (mother of director Amma Raja Sekhar) was also felicitated on the occasion.
Writer M.V.S. Haranadha Rao got nostalgic about his movie watching days with T.Krishna and said "he (T. Krishna) would go all the way to Chennai just to watch a movie by Balachandar. He always said that he would make movies like Balachandar".
Also getting nostalgic about T.Krishna was Paruchuri Gopala Krishna "Krishna wanted to direct Prajaswamyam, but very sadly died before he could. Then Pokuri Babu Rao asked me to direct it and I made my directorial debut with that film; in fact it was with the intention of directing it that I wrote the script for Prajaswamyam. I am very happy that Gopichand is living up to the standards of his father".
Where Amma Raja Sekhar thanked Pokuri Babu Rao for felicitating his mother; Chief Guest Ramanaidu called Pokuri Babu Rao as a sincere producer with a keen sense for good film making and said that Gopichand has established himself as a star.
Continuing in his father vein was Venkatesh "I became a fan of Gopichand after watching Jayam. Raja Sekhar, I have known since his dancer days at the time of Kaliyuga Pandavalu. He knows the pulse of the masses and I am happy that he has tasted success with his very first film as a director".
"I became a huge fan of Venkatesh after watching Kaliyuga Pandavalu", Gopichand said in response to Venkatesh's compliment "he is the only hero whom I like and learn from. Though Amma Raja Sekhar narrated the script of Ranam when I was still doing Jayam I was not confident about doing it till after Yagnam".
Chief guest Dasari Narayana Rao spoke at length about the late director T.Krishna comparing him to the Indian Film industry legends like Santaram, Satyajit Ray and Raj Kapoor "Though Satyajit Ray's films were critically acclaimed, they were not commercially successful. Raj Kapoor and Santaram were the directors who balanced both the art as well as commercial aspects of the film well. T.Krishna belonged to that genre. He could balance the art as well as the commercial aspect of a film very well. All of Eetaram banner's films were not declared hits on day one. The audiences start pouring in from the second week of the film's release and the films become a huge hit. The characterization of the hero is the highlight of Ranam and so also its unusual climax. Gopichand is carving a niche for himself by doing radically different roles. He sure has a very bright future" on a different note Dasari urged the film industry to ban smoking and use of animals and birds in films saying that at least 56 films have been stalled by the censor board because of the misuse of animals in those films.
"Gopichand rejected an offer to do 'Son oF India' that was to be directed by Dasari" a smiling R. Narayana Murthy said "he was scared of working with Dasari. But now that Gopichand has succeed in this industry, he should continue to do more good films" speaking about the latest ban on films like Fanaa and Da Vinci Code, Narayana Murthy requested Dasari to use his influence at the center and lift the ban on these films.
