Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) hosted a mega cycling event - The Great Hyderabad Cyclothon II, on the eve of India's 68th Republic Day, on Sunday, from the Gachibowli Bike Station. Mr Rajiv Trivedi, IPS, Principal Secretary (Home) & Director General (Vigilance), Govt. of Telangana; flagged off the ride at the Gachibowli Bike Station and joined in a short cycle ride, Mr. D V Manohar, Chairman, Hyderabad Bicycling Club; Chairman, All India Bicycling Federation & Board Member, World Cycling Alliance, Brussels, was present on the occasion. The ride hosted last year also was a huge hit with a large number of cyclists from all walks of life participating in the prestigious event.
The Great Hyderabad Cyclathon II had three categories of rides - Cyclothon 10 km Mass Ride, 30 Kms Foundation Ride and 60 Kms Countryside Ride. The route for 10 Kms Mass Ride was from HBC Bike Station to Kothaguda T junction and back. The route for 60 Kms Countryside Ride was from HBC Gachibowli bike station towards Kasimbowli Village, Bakaram village, Chevella Road and follow the same route back. The route for 30 kms Foundation Ride was half the distance undertaken for the 60 Kms Countryside Ride.
HBC is aggressively promoting bicycling as an eco and fitness friendly mode for commuting in the city. This is an occasion symbolising the true spirit of the nation by the enthusiastic participants from all walks of life. Through such mass bicycling events, HBC is imbibing the culture of cycling amongst wider section of the populace in the city. With the Cycling Advocacy efforts of HBC, Hyderabad now emerged as the "Cycling Citadel" of India, says Mr. D V Manohar.
