JAAGO STREEM A solo art show: By Sravanthi Juluri, Artist. "The United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the Internationat Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities to raise public awareness of issues that discriminate against women in a 16 day "activism" period. Artist Sravanthi :felon uses her canvas as a medium to raise her voice and say "No to violence" through her solo art show entitled, "limo Streel!!" About Jaago Stree!!! A solo art show by Sravanthi Juluri

"Jaago Stree (wake up woman)" is the voice of the suffering, women and innocent children alike. It is a thought provoking exhibit of my recent works, where I expresses through ray art, violence and abuse women and the girl child are subjected to.The works leave a deep impact on the audience by making one actually "feel" the pain of the victim. It is also about invoking the "Shakti (Divine energy)" in every "Stree (woman)" and helping her step out of the darkness she has been confined to.

We wake up every morning to read the news of some form of violence that has been committed, be it a dowry death or a case of sexual abuse, we never give it a second thought. But when through my art, the visuals remain in the minds of the viewer even after she/he leaves the show. So each time he/she reads about a crime that has been committed against the women or the girl child, they immediately recall the art, where they can actually feel the intensity of the pain the victim has been through. In the journey of life, a woman is subjected to several atrocities, right from the time she is conceived in the womb of her mother till she is old. My art brings to light issues such as Female infanticide; female foeticide, trafficking, molestation, child marriages, domestic violence, and dowry deaths to name a few. To leave a positive mark on those who suffered, I compared the woman to the Goddess Kali (Hindu Mythology), who is known as the "destroyer of evil in the society. I call the woman to come out of the darkness to ignite the immense energy that she possess to transform herself into the "fierce goddess" as she has the potential to stop the violence from spreading.
