Prasthanam - Music for a mixed taste

‘Prasthanam’ is a film by Deva Katta with elements of politics carrying a good message. Starring Sharwanand, Ruby and Saikumar in central roles, this film is being produced by Vallabhaneni Ravi has music by Mahesh Shankar. The audio of ‘Prasthanam’ was recently released by the Lok Satta president Jaya Prakash Narayan who emphasizes that the government is for the people, of the people and by the people. Music director Mahesh Shankar’s did very few films till date. Although his first film was ‘Flavors’ he got a good break with ‘Vennela’ after which he did only two films – ‘Prayanam’ and ‘99’. After ‘Vennela’, ‘Prasthanam’ is the second film in Mahesh Shankar – Deva Katta combination.
Payaname Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Deva Katta Singer: VV Prasanna, Vijay Vemuri, Niranjanaiah Katta
‘Payaname’, with Deva Katta’s inspirational lyrics is a thought provoking song. The mix of rich sound of music and singers’ strong vocals is sure to staple the listeners.
Bedaro Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Chaitanya Prasad Singer: Deepu, Narayanan
The song with good catchy beats is a situational number. Mahesh weaves folk and country sound into wonderful arrangements. Chaitanya Prasad’s lyrics are pretty interesting. The vocals rendered by Deepu and Narayanan are passionate. On the whole this energetic mass number is interesting to hear. It is my pick of the album.
Evado Vaadu Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Deva Katta Singer: Narayanan, Rita, Yamini Potti
After listening to a haunting country song, this rock number with western touch is ridiculous. It’s quite boring and very much avoidable.
Murali Lola Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Vanamali Singer: Kalyani, Saindhavi, Rahul Nambiar, Sriram
Aah! I am hooked. ‘Murali Lola’ with rhythmic beats gave me lighthearted feel. The mild instrumentation flows on the sweet sound of Kalyani’s vocals. Her vocals are clear, smooth and soulful. Saindhavi renders her voice for the child artist while Rahul Nambiar and Sriram join her for a line. Vanamali’s lyrics narrate the short story of Sri Krishna.
Nayudochchaadoe Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Vanamali Singer: VV Prasanna, Narayanan, Kalyani
‘Nayudochchaadoe’ is a group song with solid instrumentation. This is a danceable number appears to be on situational grounds, therefore the impact of this song would be more on silver screen. But otherwise it is not at all interesting to listen.
Innallugaa Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Vanamali Singer: Sahiti, Mahesh
‘Innallugaa’ is a melodious song that starts with fragile instruments but later goes heavy. Sung by Sahiti and Mahesh himself, this song is good as long as the track goes on but cannot be remembered after that. Ultimately it is a passable track.
Nee Rendallo Music: Mahesh Shankar Lyrics: Vanamali Singer: Karthik, Soumya
This is yet another mass number with fast beats. It is a village song sung by Karthik and Soumya. The composition is good and Mahesh tried something different from his usual style. This foot percussion number is good for dance floors.
On the whole this album is average except that Mahesh crafted each track in different style like loyal, folk, western, story type, melody and village.
