Venkatesh has teamed up with his nephew Naga Chaitanya for the movie 'Venky Mama'. Directed by K.S.Ravindra aka Bobby after 'Jai Lava Kusa', the film has generated good buzz before the release. Read on to know how the film is.
After the death of his parents when he was just 1 year old, Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) gets raised by his uncle Venkata Ratnam aka Military Naidu (Venkatesh). Venky's father Rama Narayana (Nasser), who firmly believes in horoscopes, predicts that Karthik will be responsible for a tragedy in his family and is against Venky raising him. But Venky doesn't pay heed to his father's warnings. He remains a bachelor so that he can take care of Karthik well and on the other hand, Karthik remains jobless just to be with his uncle. Such is the bond between them. But an incident separates them. Three years after Karthik leaving him, Venky sets out on a journey to find his whereabouts. Will he find him? Why are the uncle and nephew, who are very close and inseparable, gets separated in the first place?
Venkatesh's impeccable comedy timing comes to the fore throughout the first half. He is as good as ever in emotional scenes. His chemistry with real life nephew Naga Chaitanya is the highlight of the movie. Chaitanya is very good as well. He emotes well and his comedy scenes with Hyper Aadhi have worked out well. Payal Rajput and Raashi Khanna did well in the space they have got. Rao Ramesh, Prakash Raj, Dasari Arun Kumar, Hyper Aadhi, Vidyullekha Raman and others are good.
Thaman's music is one of the strengths of the film. Especially, the 'Coca Cola Pepsi' song will work out well in the B, C centers. Prasad Murella's cinematography is good.
Most of the Comedy scenes
Predictable second half
'Love' has the power to rewrite destiny. Well, 'Venky Mama' is based on that point. The chemistry between Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya is the biggest highlight of the film. Most of the comedy scenes work well and tickle the audiences' funny bone. The emotional scenes are also good. But the story offers nothing new and the film becomes predictable in the second half after a point. A few comedy scenes are in bad taste. The music is good. There are many elements that will work well with the family audiences.
On the whole, 'Venky Mama' is a Paisa Vasool entertainer though the story is quite old. Watch for Venky-Chay's superb chemistry, good emotions and comedy.
