'Varudu Kaavalenu', which is produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments, is the latest theatrical release in the town. Let's find out what the entertainer is all about.

Story

Akash (Naga Shaurya) and Bhumi (Ritu Varma) have a thing in common. They both are pushing 30 and are single. An architect who returns from Paris to India, Akash is talented and starts wooing Bhumi, who runs an eco-friendly business. Bhumi's mother (Nadhiya) wants to get her married as soon as possible, but the daughter is reluctant to enter into wedlock. Why is Bhumi not eager about marriage? Why is Akash busy wooing her? What are the differences between them? What does it take for them to bury their differences? Answers to these questions are found in the second half.

Performances

After underwhelming roles in films like 'Ammammagarillu' and 'Narthanasala', Naga Shaurya was decent in 'Aswathama'. In 'Varudu Kaavalenu', he is both lively and endearing. As Akash, he delivers one of the most engaging performances of his career. While Ritu Varma didn't have a well-etched role in 'Tuck Jagadish', in this film, she gets to play a thoroughly elaborate role. The actress makes sure her acting talent comes to the fore in the scenes with the male lead. Their chemistry is enjoyable.

Both Murali Sharma and Nadhiya needed to be as effective as the lead pair, considering the nature of the story. And they are bang on. The former is far more able than the latter. The comedy is taken care of by Vennela Kishore in the first half, while Saptagiri does it in the second. Praveen, Kireeti Damaraju, Himaja, Satya, and 'Dedthadi' Harika have roles. Harsha Vardhan is seen in a negative role.

Technical aspects

While Vishal Chandrasekhar has composed three songs ('Kola Kalle Ilaa', 'Manasulone Nilichipoke', and 'Vaddaanam') as well as the background music, Thaman gets the credit for 'Digu Digu Digu Naga', one of the peppiest special numbers in recent times. The placement of the songs is alright and none of them really hinders the flow of the story. 'Digu Digu Digu Naga' draws whistles.

Vamsi Patchipulusu's cinematography and Naveen Nooli's editing compete with each other to give the best. AS Prakash's art direction is a testimony to the fine production values of the film.

Analysis

Does life give a broken heart a second chance? Sometimes. How difficult or easy would it be to use the opportunity? In 'Varudu Kaavalenu', Akash and Bhumi are involved in a love story that has no easy answers. Debutante writer-director Lakshmi Sowjanya stages their story without boring the audience with unnecessary preachiness.

After narrating an engaging flashback, the film gets into drawing laughs. A couple of quirky comedians are introduced in the backdrop of a wedding ceremony. The writing is simple yet effective in the pre-climax and climax phases.

Since the pairing of Naga Shaurya and Ritu Varma is spot-on, the writing gets thoroughly elevated with elan. Ganesh Kumar Ravuri and Sharath have penned the screenplay without compromising on the central text of the story.

More than a plot, 'Varudu Kaavalenu' is about understanding and being empathetic. The dialogues are brief and hit the bull's eye. Since the songs convey the feelings of Bhumi, the film is all the more about its female lead as it is about its male lead.

The climax is not melodramatic and yet it strikes the right notes.

Closing Remarks

'Varudu Kaavalenu' holds the audience's interest thoroughly. It balances its emotional and entertainment quotient with ease.
