Veteran singer P B Sreenivas is no more

Veteran singer P B Sreenivas is no more. The 82 year old playback singer has paased away on Sunday afternoon in a private hospital in Chennai due to breathing problem and heart attack. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. The entire Indian film industry, mainly South India mourned for the demise of the legendary singer. Few among them were singer Chitra, AVM Studios Saravanan, music director M S Vishwanathan, Madala Ranga Rao, dubbing artist Ghantasala Ratnakumar, etc.

Born on 22nd September in Gollaprolu village near Kakinada in East Godavari district, Sreenivas sang around 3000 songs in Kannada (highest number of songs), Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Tulu. The singer made his debut in 1952 with a duet song ‘Aj hum Bharat ki naari’ in Gemini’s Hindi film ‘Mr Sampat’ which became a hit number. The singer who obtained B.Com degree is fluent in 8 languages – Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, English and Sanskrit. He also wrote several ghazals in Telugu. P B Sreenivas had sung almost with all top female singers like Lata Mangeshkar, P Susheela, S Janaki, L R Easwari, K Jamuna Rani and P Bhanumathi. He lent his voice for all top stars of yesteryear like Kannda super star Dr Raj Kumar, NTR, ANR, Gemini Ganesan, MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Muthuraman, Jaishankar, etc. The versatile singer took his last breath on April 14th, 2013 in Chennai. Ragalahari prays for his soul to rest in peace of the feet of the Almighty.
