Rehman wins First Centenary Award at IFFI

Legendary actress Waheeda Rehman wins the inaugural Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of 2013 at 44th IFFI (International Film Festival of India) in Goa on November 20th. The 77 year old will be the first actress to be honoured with the prestigious award by the Government of India on celebration of 100 years of Indian Cinema. The award carries a citation, a certificate, a silver peacock medal, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. This award custom of honoring an outstanding film personality for his or her contribution to Indian Cinema would continue annually from this year onwards.

Waheeda Rehman made her acting debut in 1955 with a Telugu film ‘Rojulu Marayi’ and entered the Bollywood industry the following year with ‘C.I.D’. She was again seen on the Telugu after 5 decades in the film ‘Chukkallo Chandrudu’. She is well known for her memorable performances in films like ‘Guide’ and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam’. The veteran actress received the Padma Shri in 1972 and Padma Bhushan in 2011.
