A number of film industry personalities have questioned the proposed changes to the Cinematograph Act. The Centre wants to arrogate to itself the right to review a film that has been duly certified by the CBFC.

After a number of Bollywood celebrities, a few South Indian cine personalities have started raising their voices against the controversial amendment. Suriya has urged everyone to register their opposition online.

On his party, Vishal today said that the law, if passed, will stifle the freedom of expression. He also said that the film industry has been targeted through GST first.

Karthi is yet another popular actor to rail against the law. "The Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 (Draft) allowing the Central Government to cancel a film's censor certificate at any time will create insecurity and severely impact business prospects for every film and hurt the industry, hence such provisions must be dropped," he tweeted.
