It has been controversially held that the Tamil audience are biased against non-Tamil movies owing to excessive regional and linguistic pride. On Wednesday, actor Vikram was in Hyderabad to promote his Republic Day 2024 release 'Thangalaan'. On the occasion, the 'Aparichitudu' actor was asked about the general trend of the Tamil audience refusing to watch non-Tamil pan-Indian movies.

Vikram, understandably, defended the Tamil people by pointing out that 'Baahubali' and 'RRR' did very well in his state. The record of 'Baahubali 2' in Tamil Nadu was unbeaten for years.

However, Telugu Netizens argue that Vikram is wrong. "It is not about event films like 'Baahubali', which are absolute exceptions. You have to consider smaller films. The Telugu audience showered huge monies on a film like 'Bicchagadu' even though it was a dubbed one. But the Tamil audience are not known to accept small Telugu films that are sensible and novel." This is the sum and substance of what Netizens are saying.

The general trend is that the Tamil audience are extremely rare in accepting non-Tamil films. The recent 'Kushi' was a rare instance of a medium Telugu film doing well in Tamil Nadu.
