After the recent arrest of Allu Arjun, a section of the pro-BJP and anti-Congress national media has criticized Revanth Reddy severely. Among star journalists who have panned the Telangana government is Arnab Goswami.
After Thursday's meeting between Tollywood's representatives and the Chief Minister, a rumour went out that the government wants Telugu film celebrities to promote caste census. The caste census is a pet project of Rahul Gandhi. The CM's appeal may or may not be explicit. So far, the delegation's leader, Dil Raju, hasn't said anything about this so-called demand/appeal by the CM. If it was made, nothing would be more frustrating to those who believe that politics and art should never be mixed.
A section of Hindutva wingers on social media have theorized that the Congress CM of Telangana wants to curb the rise of pro-Hinduism movies being made by Telugu filmmakers. Many view films like RRR (where Ram Charan's character was reimagined as Lord Rama), Karthikeya 2, and upcoming movies like Nikhil Siddhartha's The India House as nationalistic and Hindu cultural in nature. Also, the BJP has taken a pro-Telugu cinema stance in recent days. Three Union Ministers and Tamil Nadu's Annamalai have criticized Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy's supporters believe that nothing has been mandated by the government to the industry and as such, the CM shouldn't be censured.
