'Keedaa Cola' was released in theatres in November last year. A particular song in the crime comedy went unnoticed. And that song has become a source of headache for its makers, including music director Vivek Sagar. In the film's album, there is a song that mimics the voice of SP Balasubrahmanyam. You are wrong if you thought it was his son SP Charan's voice. It was generated using the deepfake technology.
In an interview last year, Vivek Sagar allegedly admitted that AI was used to generate the song. The intention of director Tharun Bhascker was to pay homage to the legendary SPB. But since the prior consent of SPB's family wasn't taken, Charan felt that he should seek damages. Damages to the tune of Rs 1 Cr have been sought from the team of the film.
It seems the makers of 'Keedaa Cola' hope that the issue can be prolonged. Their response to a legal notice by Charan on January 18 didn't fetch a proper response from them, Charan's lawyer has said. Charan has gone public with the controversy. What was a secret till the other day has now become everyone's knowledge.
