The review added, "In this benign sequel, the Disney princess continues her seafaring ways and remains admirably uninterested in finding a prince." The Wrap gave a negative review. "Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson return for a mediocre, uninspired sequel to a modern Disney classic," the publication opined.
The Guardian said that the "frictionless sequel lacks genuine passion".
The New Indian Express stated, "Like its predecessor, this sequel brings a familiar tale, but this time it fails to venture into the uncharted territory of storytelling brilliance. The film, however, is still spectacular, thanks to its breathtaking and tide-turning visuals."
