2025 Round-Up: Biggies fail, small films are saving grace

From Game Changer to Akhanda 2, from Hari Hara Veera Mallu to Mass Jathara, from Nithiin's Thammudu to Siddu Jonnalagadda's Telusu Kada, from Andhra King Taluka to Jack, the year hasn't been good for big movies. Thammudu might be seen as a medium-range movie based on the star, but its budget, as per Dil Raju, was Rs 60 Cr. Telusu Kada's budget was Rs 50 Cr. Reports say that Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom, too, was just above average and not a blockbuster.

In a year full of such high-profile failures, some of which made terrible losses, it's small films that have made the mark.

Court and Mad Square were excellent money-spinners in March. The former was produced by Natural Star Nani, while the latter came from Sithara Entertainments.

In May, Sree Vishnu's Single and the Samantha-produced Subham made profits.

A turning point for youthful cinema came in the form of Little Hearts, which was headlined by Mouli Tanuj and Shivani Nagaram. It was backed by distributors Bunny Vasu and Vamsi Nandipati. Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas' Kishkindhapuri apparently made profits, but it was largely dominated by Teja Sajja's Mirai.

The Diwali release, Kiran Abbavaram's K-Ramp, was a clear hit. The film defeated the other major Diwali outing, Telusu Kada.

Rashmika Mandanna's The Girlfriend and Raju Weds Rambai were also box-office hits. The former was produced by Geetha Arts and Dheeraj Mogilineni.
