Her father, Ajit Sharma, has been associated with the Congress Party. In 2024, he suggested that his daughter might debut in politics. "If we get this seat (Bhagalpur constituency), it is up to the party’s high command to take a call on who can contest. If the party asks me, I will contest or maybe my daughter Neha Sharma might contest from this constituency," Ajit Sharma said ahead of the 2024 LS elections. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, she campaigned for her father.
