'Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante', starring Dulquer Salmaan and Ritu Varma in the leads, will release on Friday (28th Friday). Gautham Menon plays an important role in this movie, which is a romantic thriller, directed by Desingh Periyasamy. This film, which is Dulquer's 25th, has been produced by Viacom 18 Studios and Anto Joseph Film Factory. KFC Entertainments present it in Telugu.
Dulquer interacted with the Telugu film media ahead of the film's release. He talks about the film, his career, doing a straight Telugu film this year and more..
Exciting thriller
'Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante' is an exciting and fun film to watch. It's a good rom-com and a fast-paced, racy thriller as well. It has got a lot of twists and turns. I can't give away much about the film. I want the audience to watch and enjoy it without any spoilers. There are a lot of surprises in store. It's like a Abbas-Masthan style movie. I haven't done such a movie before. Hopefully, Telugu audiences like it.
Dubbed for my character
People have been kind enough to give me opportunities in different languages. I am thankful audience as well as the filmmakers, who are welcoming me.Many ask me why I take a long gap between one bilingual and another. This movie has a very good potential in Telugu and Tamil. I have dubbed for myself as well and the output is very good. Not all bilinguals work but 'Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante' has it that what it takes to work in different languages.
About Ritu Varma
Ritu Varma is a very nice co-star to work with. She is very professional. Since the film was shot in Tamil, I had helped her out with the language. She has become fluent in Tamil now. Rakshak and Niranjani played other important roles and they were fun to work with.
Gautham Menon is a talented actor
You know Gautham Menon as a talented director. But he is a talented actor as well. He has got so much energy and style. The trailer, featuring him has got a good response.
Just 25 films
Malayalam actors do a lot of movies per yer. About 5 to 6 releases are expected from them every year. But in my career spanning eight years, I have done just 25 films. I look at originality while choosing a script.
Turned down that offer
It's not like I am comfortable doing only rom-coms. If you look at my career, I have not stuck to any one particular genre. I had turned down an offer to feature in an interesting epic period movie as I don't see myself doing such movies yet.
Fallen in love with Telugu
If I do films in languages I'm not familiar with, I have to completely trust the team. Because nativities are different in different languages and every language has its own style of expression. A joke in one language might not sound funny in another language. For 'Mahanati', everything worked as expected. Everyone helped me with the language. I can learn Telugu and do the scenes, if you give me a script. I have genuinely fallen in love with Telugu language. I need to be careful about which film should be made as a bilingual. Because, when done in more than one language, a film might lose its essence.
Straight Telugu film this year
I will be doing a straight Telugu film in the second half of this year. The team will announce it officially soon.
