Director Siva says that Suriya is a stunning performer. Ahead of the release of 'Kanguva' on November 14th, the star director reveals that the actor is a skilled gymnast. "His martial arts expertise and impressive running ability were invaluable assets during the rigorous filming of 'Kanguva'. Even at the age of 50, his dedication to fitness is evident in his chiseled physique. A strict diet and rigorous workout regimen are the secrets behind his stamina," says the director.
He dives into the exemplary world of 'Kanguva' in this interview. (Mythri Movie Makers is going to release the movie in Nizam territory).
I began my journey in Telugu. I worked as an assistant cameraman on Venkatesh's 'Premante Idera' in the late 1990s. I have been a passionate reader right from childhood. I became a book worm as a child after an incident.
I wrote the story of 'Kanguva' while listening to a song composed for 'Veeram' (Tamil) by Devi Sri Prasad. After I completed the story, I narrated it to producer Gnanavel Raja. He asked me to meet Suriya. That's how the journey of 'Kanguva' began. It went on for more than two years. The pre-production was elaborate and meticulous.
We are releasing 'Kanguva' in both 2D and 3D formats. The 3D formatting is going to set a new standard among Indian films. These days, audiences want films to be set in new worlds and backdrops. This was the perfect time to make a film like 'Kanguva'. We shot the film in natural locations to maintain authenticity. The challenge of bringing to life the enormous vision (like 400 ships) was no small deal. The technical departments had an onerous task at their hands.
The production of Kanguva was a massive undertaking. With 140 trucks deployed on some days, the logistical challenges were immense. Despite the scale, the team, led by Suriya, maintained a rigorous schedule, with early morning shoots and demanding physical challenges like hill climbs. Surya’s performance in both the roles (Kanguva the warrior and Francis the shadow cop) are remarkable.
I am a commercial filmmaker. Even as an audience member, I like commercial movies. I have blended both commercial elements and content in making 'Kanguva'.
Our film has a big surprise in store: a guest role that will lead directly into the sequel. Stay tuned to find out who will be gracing the screen. (When asked if it is Karthi who is the actor, Siva said that the audience better discover it for themselves on the big screen).
DSP is a friend of mine. I worked with him on one film previously. He was the first audience for 'Kanguva'. His excitement during my narration made me confident about the strengths of the script.
Udhiran is the name of Bobby Deol's character. I roped him in after watching a video of him walking out of a car. Since the character is ruthless, I felt someone of his raw swag would do complete justice.
Disha Patani's Angelina is multi-layered. Her high-on-energy performance is going to impress the audience.
I am eager to work with Telugu star heroes. I have five storylines ready, including 'Kanguva 2'.
